Sealants and joint-filling materials
If any wet processes take place in the premises, sealing of joints is especially significant, as absence of sealing results in peeling of organic coatings from the floor plate. This process can be especially active at increased temperature in the premises.
During performance of works, the number and location of joints shall be determined based not only on the materials thermal expansion coefficient, but also taking into consideration concrete shrinkage and possible deformations, which most often arise in the areas of junction between the floor and the foundation under equipment, walls, and pillars.
Joints sealing allows to protect the joint against penetration of water and aggressive media, and also against blocking.
The type of sealant depends on loads and conditions of operation. For example, at many industrial and food enterprises the floors must be easy to clean and must endure high traffic load. Sealants for such floors must be hard enough in order to support the joint edges and prevent their chipping, and also they must be plastic enough in order to stand easy opening and closing of the joint.
